Glenariffe bids farewell

Glenariffe community residents were down on the hurling field on Sunday 26 November to say a fond farewell to the old club building before the demolition squad move in.

Oisins CLG chairman Niall Wheeler commented at the event: “Many of us in the community have spent a lot of time in this building over the past 30 years and we all wanted to come and pay our last respects before it’s knocked down to make way for the new Centre. Our community is immensely proud of the cultural heritage, sporting traditions and history of the Glens. This may be the end of an era but it’s also an exciting new chapter in the history books for this community. We’ve had no community space since the parish hall closed in 2011 and we’re all looking forward to having this new facility which the whole community will be able to use.”

The doors to the clubhouse were locked for the last time by Niall Wheeler assisted by a few of the younger members of the club.
