It will provide a wider range of social, sporting and recreational opportunities to people of all ages, abilities and interests in the community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-6\" src=\"https:\/\/friendsofglenariffe.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/slide-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1600\" height=\"825\" srcset=\"https:\/\/friendsofglenariffe.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/slide-1.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/friendsofglenariffe.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/slide-1-300x155.jpg 300w, https:\/\/friendsofglenariffe.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/slide-1-768x396.jpg 768w, https:\/\/friendsofglenariffe.org\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/slide-1-1024x528.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>What the new Community and Recreation Centre will contain:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>GROUND FLOOR:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Female and male changing rooms with shower and toilet facilities<\/li>\n<li>Medical Room<\/li>\n<li>Reception Area<\/li>\n<li>Office and storage space<\/li>\n<li>Lift to first floor<\/li>\n<li>Toilet and access facilities for people with disabilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>FIRST FLOOR:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Multi-purpose community function room which can be divided into 2<\/li>\n<li>Kitchen and catering facilities<\/li>\n<li>Gym and fitness centre<\/li>\n<li>2 disabled toilets<\/li>\n<li>Viewing gallery\/veranda<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Activities and Services<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The new Centre will provide an inclusive, accessible community hub where people of all ages, interests and abilities can come together. The Centre&#8217;s facilities will serve the needs of both the local community and the hurling club. The Centre will offer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Community team and fitness events<\/li>\n<li>Gym &amp; fitness centre<\/li>\n<li>Fitness classes for all ages, levels, abilities and interests<\/li>\n<li>Community team and fitness events<\/li>\n<li>Pre-school play group<\/li>\n<li>Pre and After School Clubs<\/li>\n<li>Music, dance and craft classes<\/li>\n<li>Training, information and advice sessions<\/li>\n<li>Meeting and training space for local clubs, groups and associations<\/li>\n<li>Social and community activities eg Big Breakfasts, quizzes, bingo, etc<\/li>\n<li>Kitchen and catering facilities for social and community functions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Centre Cost<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have secured sufficient funding to build the first phase of the proposed Glenariffe Community and Recreation Centre which will cost \u00a3850,000.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to raising \u00a3281,000 ourselves over the past 8 years, we have been awarded \u00a3420,000 from the Big Lottery-funded Space &amp; Place Programme and a further \u00a3180,000 from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. To bridge the shortfall and to safeguard our secured funds, Friends of Glenariffe have taken out a loan with UCIT (the Ulster Community Investment Trust) which is a bank specialising in lending monies to community organisations.\u00a0\u00a0 This loan is solely the responsibility of the Friends of Glenariffe and will be paid back over 10 years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Project Update<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Check back here for updates<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Glenariffe&#8217;s new Community and Recreation Centre\u00a0 The new Centre will provide a fully accessible, all-inclusive facility which will accommodate both the club and the community needs.
